T-Town escape

As last week was coming to an end we realized we had no plans for Friday. No plans for Friday!!! What?!! We rushed to our rolodex (cell phone) and called our favorite goto friends (bums). Friday evening ended up being a vietnamese feast and a discovery of our new favorite cafe, The Mandolin Cafe! Cassie whipped up an amazing spread of
yummy healthy goodness!

When our bellies couldn't take anymore, we decided to go out to a cafe Cassie had been hearing wonderful things about. They served tea, wine, there was live music and the atmosphere was welcoming and artsy.

*
An acoustic set by Camille Bloom was the featured musician we caught. There were two other performers earlier in the evening. I'm glad we caught this set, they were fantastic.
*

We had a great time, and I must say the tea was prettea good! Cassie and I ordered an herbal blueberry blend and Angie ordered a vanilla, both of which were tastea! After the show, Camille came to our table and actually commented on how fancy and cool lookin' our group was. She said she noticed us walk in and really made the room welcoming and happy, and how beautiful Harlow was. She was very nice indeed! She's our new friend:-) Afterwards, the gang made their way back to the Hilton Cottage for some I scream, you scream we all ate ice cream!

Family Fest!

This past weekend we had a lot of family from Cassie's side over at our house. The list includes her sister from San Diego, parents from Spokane, Grandparents from Santa Rosa, and Sister w/ fiance from Seattle, and a few of our friends from Mill Creek (North of Seattle).

In my previous post I mentioned how much I wanted to go into the Tacoma Glass Museum, apparently I didn't have to wait too long. Every 3rd Thursday of the month is free museum day, so off we went. Unfortunately, we couldn't take photos inside the museum, but there is plenty of beauty to snap for free outside.

The gallery was smaller than expected but that's maybe because we just wanted to see more of the amazing exhibit. They had a great children's gallery where kids ages 5 to 11 drew colorful characters that would then be translated into 3d glass sculptures. Each character had a name and explanation as to what they were, and let me say the creativity was hilarious! We were laughing so hard we were crying at times. Some of the characters were...

1) A fish in a banana on a skateboard with rocket engines.
Caption said something to the effect: A fish, a banana and a place to go.

2) HamHorse
Caption said: Ham Horse
(it was a ham shaped horse. Simple but hilarious)

3) Venus flytrap with Light saber
Caption said something to the effect: I like to draw things holding light sabers.

4) Love snake (I can't remember if that was what it was actually called.)
Caption said something to the effect: This snake can slap the love out of you!

Saturday, Mike took me to a Sounder's game (Seattle's pro-soccer team). It was my first time attending a professional soccer game. I gotta say it was a blast, the energy was great, no one ever sits down, and it was an exciting last five minutes when we scored and won the game!

We all met back in Seattle at Jeanette and Mike's house for an engagement toast and feast! Jeanette is Cassie's older sister, and she and Mike just recently got engaged a couple weeks ago.

The kiddos got passed around...
(Great grandpa Paul has Harlow and Fay has Lorenzo)

...and enjoyed every minute of it.
(Lorenzo is Mandy's son, and he's about 2 months older than Harlow)

Then Mike & Jeanette showed us their cute house they will (cross your fingers) be moving into within a few months!!!

They also just recently returned from a little getaway in Kuai. ....Lucky! Here's a couple pics of where they stayed. I'll try to get more details about it from them later, and put it on my other blog
The Hilton Cottage (a blog about houses and house projects).

The next day, we took the whole family to the Washington State History Museum. We were a bit rushed last weekend we were there so it was nice to take our time and really take in all the spectacular exhibits. It was also live folk art day, so throughout the whole museum they had people who were mastered in some kind of folk art practicing their craft live. The museum is down by a harbor and there so happened to be a boat parade that day too. Cassie's grandfather really enjoys boats so it was a nice treat for him.

Later that evening we hung out about the house, relaxed on the porch, lounged in the sunny backyard and had another amazing feast! It was a full house (14 people including a few kiddos) but everyone managed to claim a spot at the table. It was followed by a great desert and a slide show of Jeanette and Mike's trip in Kuai. We're so blessed to have such a happy family!

Lorenzo's mommy gave him some hair to play with.

Monday, the sister's and babies went on a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island and had a wonderful time. We all met up again in the evening at Mike & Jeanette's house to relax and gorge on pizza and HGTV. Ahhh, the good life.

T.V. + Children = ADD

Our friend Apoorva sent us this interesting article on the study of young children watching two or more hours of t.v a day, and how it can increase their chances of developing ADD as they get older.

Washington Sate History Museum

Cassie and I had a busy weekend.

We did the MS Walk with "Team Susan". Susan is the mother of Cassie's best friend.
The Team was organized by Susan's sister, Sally, and raised around $7000 for the cause, and counting!

We also built a little gate for the underside of one of our flower boxes. Cassie's great idea!

Then we had our great friends Andrew and Sophia from Seattle over for the whole day. We showed them all the lovely parts of Tacoma including a visit to the Washington State History Museum (WSHM) in the quaint downtown Tacoma proper. But first we took a gander at some glass art on a bridge located between the WSHM and the Tacoma Museum of Glass. Stunning colors and shapes, and this was the free part! Can't wait to go inside someday.

That cone thing is the glass museum. (click on images to enlarge.)

The picture below is the ceiling of the bridge....

This is a picture of one of the grids in the ceiling. Beautiful eh? I could frame this.

...and this was the south wall containing all sorts of beautiful glass sculptures!

Large entry way to the WSHM.

These were just a few cool things we saw in there but there were so much more, you'd have to experience them in person to fully appreciate it. We all thought the museum was really well done and very interactive. We definitely recommend. Click here to learn more about the WSHM.

After a visit to the Cold Stone Creamery to find a cure for our sweet tooth, we then went on a nice long stroll through the neighborhoods to admire architecture and enjoy the sun. We finished the night off with food to go from our favorite Vietnamese restaurant and a movie at home. Thanks for hanging with us guys!
